Quant Finance Academy

What is Quant Finance Academy?

The Quant Finance Academy is a five-part workshop series designed to introduce students to the ideas, tools, and ways of thinking used in quantitative finance.

Led by faculty from Wharton’s Dr. Bruce I. Jacobs Master of Science in Quantitative Finance (Jacobs MSQF) program, each session demonstrates how quantitative methods are applied to solve real-world financial and investment problems. Whether your background is in mathematics, business, engineering, computer science, statistics, economics, physics, or another quantitative field, the Academy offers an opportunity to discover quantitative finance through real-world applications.

The Quant Finance Academy is open to all Penn students. No prior finance background is required.

Why attend?

  • See quantitative finance in action. Each faculty member will draw on a topic from their area of expertise to demonstrate how quantitative methods are applied to a real-world financial or investment problem.
  • Experience how MSQF faculty teach and think. Get a firsthand look at the analytical reasoning, modeling, and problem-solving that characterize the MSQF academic experience.
  • Explore the breadth of the field. Encounter applications across fixed income, asset pricing, investment management, data science and AI, and capital markets.
  • Find the connection to your own quantitative background. See how skills developed in mathematics, engineering, computer science, statistics, economics, physics, and related disciplines can translate into quantitative finance.
  • Connect with like-minded students. Meet peers from across Penn who share your interest in quantitative finance and quantitative problem-solving.
  • Learn more about MSQF. Meet the MSQF Admissions team after each session to ask questions about the program and admissions process.

Complete the Academy

Attend at least four sessions and complete the associated quizzes to earn a Quant Finance Academy Certificate of Completion. Completion of the Academy will also be noted in your MSQF application, should you choose to apply.
